KIDSROADLOGOSITE

Food for Thought
Debi Ford, Program Director

As Parents, you are your child’s primary spiritual leaders. Your home is the place where faith is built. These early years will help set the direction of your child for the future. It used to be said that the family that prays together, stays together. Today that is not always the case. “Research show that fewer than 10 percent of parents who regularly attend church with their kids read the Bible together, pray together (other than at meal times) or participate in an act of service as a family unit. The research shows that 69-94 percent of evangelical children are leaving the church shortly after they graduate from high school.” - about the time they leave the home. If the home is the place where faith is nurtured and passed from generation to generation, what can we do to change the statistics?

This past year, the children’s leadership chose to evaluate the curriculum we use on Sunday morning and made a decision to have all of the children (K5-5th grade) on the same curriculum topic for each week.

As parents we want you to be on board with us and understand what is being taught each week. To keep you informed, we have a typed schedule for each family. You can pick it up at the Children’s Greeter’s Desk in the Administration Building. Another place you can view the information is on the Children’s Sunday School page on our webpage. For parents this year we have a 9 a.m. Bible Study class where you can follow along with other adults the curriculum that is being taught to the children. That class is in the Education Building room 9 and is led by Terry Ford. We hope that this will help you to have discussions with your child on what you ALL have learned.

Today our hope is that we...parents and teachers...can form a team that can nurture our children into adulthood. We hope that we can help families change the statistics. Today, we want to take a stand to be an encouragement to parents to help lay a foundation that will encourage their child in the way he/she is to go. One day, as adults, they will then be able to withstand the temptations they encounter in the world...and they can know that they are not of this world. A legacy of faith in one’s beliefs, in one’s work place, and in one’s home will be firmly in place.

At Crossroads Community Church we want you to know that we take "training up" kids seriously. For infants to 5th graders we believe:

  • that its our responsibility to provide a safe and friendly environment for children to experience Christ's love.
  • that it is our responsibility to come alongside parents in nurturing spiritual maturity in their children and to assist the parent by providing care as the parent seeks opportunities to grow spiritually
  • that it is our responsibility to provide a solid Biblical foundation for the children through our teaching of Bible truths in our three children's programs

We want the time spent here, away from parents, to also be fun for the child in all of our different programs.  We encourage you to visit us to see where your child best fits in.

Below are the three programs that we use to train your child in the way he or she is to go.
